The New York Senate passed a legislative package that aims to charge dealers of heroin and other opioids with homicide if a victim dies from an accidental overdose, The Yorktown Daily Voice reported on June 11.
The new set of bills, which is being promoted by the State Senate Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, hopes to curb addiction to heroin and other opiate controlled substances in different communities in New York. State Senator Terrence Murphy believes that the legislative move would help fight the surge of drug addiction by holding the dealers accountable for their actions.
