Couple indicted for selling oxycodone prescriptions

A couple was indicted over accusations of selling thousands of oxycodone prescriptions in exchange for money, The Journal News reported on June 20.

77-year-old physician Rogelio Lucas and his 79-year-old wife and office manager Lydia Lucas were each charged with 37 counts of criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance and one count fourth-degree conspiracy over allegations that they sold more than 23,600 oxycodone prescriptions, or 3.1 million oxycodone pills, over a span of more than six years. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) said the total number of pills could be worth around $77 million on the black market.

The couple was arrested at their home in Manhattan. Authorities were also able to seize more than $600,000 in cash at their home in Scarsdale.
