On Tuesday, July 5th ,a 29-year-old man drove drunk into a Brewster police car and tried to flee. After they chased the suspect, Edy Perez of Wingdale, down Main Street, state police said there was a “brief struggle,” and Perez was arrested.
At the time of the accident, Perez had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, which is well over the legal limit. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, and resisting arrest. He was convicted of a DWI-related offense in 2013, according to police, hence the felony charge. There was no report of damage to the police car, or whether anyone had been driving it. Perez was brought before Patterson Town Court and was taken to the Putnam County jail on $15,000 bail. He is due in Brewster Village Court on July 11.
