Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes charged with domestic abuse

Maui County Police arrested Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes after he allegedly assaulted his wife on Oct. 31. Reports state that hotel security at the Four Seasons Resort in Maui called the authorities after Reyes grabbed his wife by the throat and pushed her into the sliding glass door of their hotel unit.

His wife, Katherine, was rushed to the emergency room after sustaining injuries on her wrist, neck, and thigh.

Reyes was released on $1,000 posted bail, and his lawyer pleaded not guilty to domestic abuse charges on his behalf at his Nov. 24 court appearance.

The Rockies issued a statement expressing their disappointment upon learning about the incident. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that Reyes’ case will follow the new MLB union policy on domestic violence.
